The easiest way to reach Tsukiji without using the subway.
Most visitors take the subway from Tokyo Station to Tsukiji.
However, there is an easier option that many tourists may not know about.
A direct Toei Bus connects Tokyo Station Marunouchi South Exit with Tsukiji without any transfers or long walks through underground stations.

Step 1 Find Tokyo Station Marunouchi south Exit
The bus stop is about a 1-minute walk from the Marunouchi South Exit, located inside the roundabout.
Tokyo Station is one of Japan’s largest railway stations, and finding the correct exit can be confusing for first-time visitors.

Step 2 Board Toei Bus 東05-1
Three different Toei Bus routes travel from Tokyo Station to the Tsukiji area. However, this guide recommends taking the To05-1 bus from Bus Stop 7.
Bus Stop 7 is located immediately outside the Marunouchi South Exit, making it the easiest of the three bus stops to find. The waiting area is also covered, which is particularly helpful on hot summer days or when it is raining.
Take the To05-1 bus bound for Harumi-Futo and get off at Tsukiji-sanchome. The journey is direct, with no transfers required.
Recommended Stop: Tsukiji-Sanchome
For the Tsukiji Outer Market, we recommend getting off at Tsukiji-Sanchome, the seventh stop from Tokyo Station. This bus stop offers convenient access to Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple and the area around Tsukiji Station, and the outer market is just a short walk away across the intersection.
Tsukiji-Rokuchome, the next stop, is also convenient for the Tsukiji Outer Market. However, we recommend getting off at Tsukiji-sanchome because the surroundings provide a clearer and more welcoming introduction to the Tsukiji area.
Other Buses to Tsukiji
Other buses also travel from Tokyo Station to the Tsukiji area, but we recommend using Bus Stop 7 because it is located immediately outside the Marunouchi South Exit and has frequent departures.
If you are returning from the Imperial Palace area and are already familiar with the bus stop layout, you can also travel to Tsukiji from Bus Stops 1 and 2.

Both routes stop at Tsukiji-sanchome and Tsukiji-Rokuchome.
How to Board the Bus
① Pay when you board
Enter through the front door.
If you’re using a Suica, PASMO, or another transportation IC card, simply tap your card on the reader.
If you’re paying with cash, pay the correct fare when boarding.
Only ¥1,000 notes can be used in the fare machine. Larger banknotes such as ¥5,000 and ¥10,000 notes are not accepted.

If you are planning to use trains and buses during your stay in Tokyo, having a Suica or PASMO card can make your journey much easier.
② Move toward the back of the bus
After boarding, please don’t remain near the entrance.
Move toward the back whenever possible so other passengers can board easily and the aisle stays clear.
③ Check the priority seats
If you’re looking for a seat, be aware that some seats near the front are reserved for elderly passengers, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and passengers with small children.
If the bus becomes crowded, please leave these seats available.
④ Hold on to the handrails
Japanese buses may begin moving before everyone is seated.
If you’re standing, always hold a handrail or strap to keep your balance.
⑤ Press the stop button
When your stop is approaching, press one of the red stop buttons located throughout the bus. The driver will then stop at the next bus stop.
The bus stop immediately before “Tsukiji 3-chome Station” is “Tsukiji.” Once the bus departs from “Tsukiji” and the announcement for “Tsukiji 3-chome Station” begins, please press the stop button.
If the stop button is already illuminated, another passenger has already pressed it, so you do not need to press it again.
On Toei Bus Route To 05-1, board through the front door and pay your fare when you get on. When the bus arrives at Tsukiji-Rokuchome station, exit through the rear door.
⑥ Enjoy the ride
One of the best things about taking the bus is that you can enjoy Tokyo’s streets and neighborhoods along the way.
Unlike the subway, the journey itself becomes part of your sightseeing experience.
Step 3 Get Off at Tsukiji-Rokuchome Station
Get off at Tsukiji-sanchome, the seventh stop from Tokyo Station. The stop has a covered waiting area and is surrounded by the lively streets of Tsukiji. From here, you can easily walk to Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple and the Tsukiji Outer Market.
After getting off at Tsukiji-sanchome, walk toward this large intersection and cross the road to enter the Tsukiji Outer Market area. The busy storefronts on the opposite side make it easy to recognize where you are going.
Before crossing the intersection, take a look at the household goods shop on the corner. It sells simple Japanese cooking tools, including molds for making onigiri, sushi and hand rolls, for around 400 to 500 yen. These inexpensive items are practical, easy to carry home and make more unusual souvenirs than typical tourist products.
What Can You Do in Tsukiji?
Tsukiji is best known for food, but there is much more to discover than sushi and seafood. After getting off the bus at Tsukiji-sanchome, you can explore the area on foot and experience several different sides of the neighborhood.
Returning to Tokyo Station by Bus
To return to Tokyo Station, use the Tsukiji-sanchome bus stop for buses traveling toward Tokyo Station.
Please note that this is not the same stop where you got off. Before boarding, check the destination displayed on the bus and confirm that it is bound for Tokyo Station.
The bus will take you directly back to the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station without any transfers.
Important: Check the Route Number Before Boarding
Take one of the following buses bound for Tokyo Sta. Marunouchi South Exit:
- To 04 （都04）
- To 05-1 （都05-1）
- To 05-2 （都05-2）
Do not board the To 03 bus bound for Yotsuya Station or the Gyo 10 bus bound for Shimbashi. These buses do not go to Tokyo Station.
